Danger and Disobedience (Chapter 1)

Apr 17, 2023    Rev Iain MacAskill

We apologise for the slight "echo" effect in this weeks recording.

In this sermon, we dive into the story of Jonah and the whale, exploring how it's more than just a children's tale but a true account of God's blessing on a prophet and a pagan people. We reflect on Jonah's reluctance to follow God's command and how his disobedience led to danger. We also examine God's rescue plan for Jonah and how it parallels Jesus' time in the heart of the earth. Join us as we uncover the importance of obedience, trust in Jesus for salvation, and the powerful reminder of God's love, mercy, and forgiveness found in the story of Jonah.

(0:29:20) - Trusting in the Lord (5 Minutes)

We examine God's rescue plan for Jonah, as well as for all of us, drawing parallels between Jonah's time in the belly of the big fish and Jesus' time in the heart of the earth. Just as Jonah was saved physically and spiritually, we too can be saved through faith in Jesus. By repenting of our sins and disobedience, we can find salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ. The story of Jonah serves as a powerful reminder of God's love, mercy, and forgiveness, urging us to trust in Jesus for our own salvation
